A Blacksmith Buddy fan, Marco, sent us this great video he calls, “An ode to the ancient yet indispensable trade of the farrier.” Marco was inspired by the history of the Dutch farrier trade. When horses were replaced by machines in the agricultural industry, most of the horsehoe factories in Europe closed. In the Netherlands, three still remain open. His story adds imagery and sound to demonstrate how modern machines make and shape the steel for horseshoes. The personal touch of farriers is needed to individualize each shoe for every horse, showing how the ancient practice carries on through our modern day.
